Decannulation

It is an intensive care treatment used for pediatric patients where tracheostomy is not required. To proceed further with the procedure, the patient should meet specific criteria. Once the tracheal tube removal starts, the patients may feel shortness of breath or sensations for a while. There is backup personnel is required to be ready in case of any emergency situation. The patient is required to be in a supine position on their back and the opening of the tracheal tube on the neck is covered with sterile gauze that is stabilized with the tape.
