Dysthymia

Dysthymia, also called persistent depressive disorder, is a mental condition characterized by long-term depression. An individual affected by dysthymia may feel sad, lose interest in everyday activities, feel hopeless, be unproductive, and have low self-respect. These feelings may last for years and eventually interfere with daily activities, relationships, etc. The condition is difficult to treat, but a combination of medication and psychotherapy may help alleviate the symptoms.
