Extensor hallucis longus is a muscle present in one’s lower leg. It starts from the middle portion of the calf bone fibula and attaches to the bones connecting to the big toe. With the help of this muscle, one can bend the ankle upwards and twist the foot inward. If the extensor hallucis longus muscle gets injured or paralyzed, one may not be able to bend the big toe backward. The toe may stay bent downward making one trip while walking.
