Hyperechoic Kidney

The echogenicity or the brightness of the fetus's kidney is usually similar to that of the liver. The kidneys are considered hyperechogenic if they appear brighter than the liver. The cause of kidney hyperechogenicity is uncertain in most cases. However, this could be an indicator of various problems, such as chromosomal abnormalities, polycystic kidney disease, and syndromes such as Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome.
