Lochia Infection

Lochia or postpartum bleeding is a vaginal discharge that occurs after giving birth. This discharge is a mix of mucus, blood, and uterine tissue. Its flow is heavy for the first three to four days and has a musty odor like menstrual discharge. In each woman, the duration and heaviness of the bleeding differ. There are three stages of lochia, lochia rubra, lochia alba, and lochia serosa.
