Fatty liver disease in the absence of alcohol use is known as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Causative factors remain obesity, type 1 diabetes, old age, high blood pressure, and cholesterol. Two subtypes of this disease are non-alcoholic fatty liver and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis. Usually, patients get it diagnosed during a routine blood test. Liver biopsy can rule out the cause in severe conditions. Treatment modality is through lifestyle changes like weight loss, diet changes, and exercise.
