Ast

AST, aspartate transaminase, is an enzyme present mainly in the liver and heart. An AST blood test helps to measure the amount of AST in the blood. It is used in routine blood screening to diagnose liver diseases. The normal range of AST lies between 5 to 40 international units per liter (IU/L) of serum. High AST levels in the blood may indicate cirrhosis, fatty liver, alcoholic liver disease, hepatitis, and mononucleosis.
