Breast Core Biopsy

A breast core biopsy is a procedure in which a thin, hollow needle is inserted into the breast to obtain samples. A breast core biopsy is recommended if a visible breast lump or a mass is in the mammogram. If the mass is palpable, the doctor inserts the needle into that area and collects the sample. Otherwise, guidance is provided with the help of an ultrasound. Doctors can also use magnetic resonance imaging and breast X-ray images to assist in the sample collection. A small 2 mm cut is made in the skin to insert the biopsy needle, and the sample is collected.

Dr. Prakash. H. M.

Answer: Hi, Welcome to icliniq.com. Yes, it is strange, but not worrisome. Biopsy reports timing would not matter much unless the tissue was kept outside, which is never done. If the tissue is not fixed (put on a fluid called as formalin), no opinion will be possible. 5 cores or 8 cores, depends on the cou...  Read Full »
