Enamel hypoplasia is a quantitative developmental defect affecting the enamel. A disturbance in the matrix formation during teeth development causes pits, fissures, lines, furrows, etc., on the crown. These areas are deficient in enamel. Genetic predisposition, stress, trauma, infection (Turner's tooth), nutritional deficiency, etc., are attributed to its etiology. Hypoplasia due to genetics are generalized, affecting all the teeth, and hypoplasia due to local factors affect either one or two teeth. Teeth in enamel hypoplasia are yellowish to brownish in appearance. These increase the risk of caries and poor oral hygiene and are esthetically inappreciable.
