Teratogens are agents that disturb the growth of the fetus when the pregnant woman is exposed to those agents. It causes congenital disabilities in children. The common teratogens are radiation, maternal infections, chemicals, and drugs. They cause physical malformations, behavioral or emotional development problems, and decreased intelligent quotient (IQ) in the child. In some cases, preterm labor, miscarriages, or abortions occurs.
