Hello doctor,
My son is 23 years old. He has a blood pressure of 170/100 mm Hg. Both my husband and I are hypertensive. How common is it to have high blood pressure in the early 20s? What can I do about it?
Kindly advise.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Thank you for writing, and I understand your concern. It is uncommon to have high blood pressure at a young age. Many causes can lead to hypertension, such as a poor diet, low physical activity, smoking, and stress. Does he have any stress? What are his current symptoms? I suggest you measure his blood pressure for the next five days and note it down. Based on the values, medicines can be prescribed. I also suggest make lifestyle changes if required.
I hope this helps.
Kindly get back in case of further questions.
Thank you.
