Hello doctor,

I am 20 years old. I had pain in my left arm and chest slightly two days back. After this, I got tested for cholesterol level, and my overall cholesterol level is desirable. But my HDL is 25 mg/dL, and my LDL is 101 mg/dl. Yesterday my blood pressure was 150/80 mmHg. I am concerned if there is any risk of heart problems. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern. According to the values mentioned, the level of HDL (high-density lipoprotein) is low. The normal levels should be more than 50 mg/dL. HDL is the cholesterol your body needs to avoid heart-related diseases, and a low amount increases your chance of heart disease. It is not good to suffer from issues like high blood pressure at your age. I suggest you follow a few instructions mentioned below.

  1. Lifestyle modification.
  2. Consume healthy food like vegetables, nuts, fruits, whole grains, etc. This modification will help with your HDL level.
  3. Exercise regularly. Thirty minutes of cardio and other strength training exercises have to be done at least three to five days a week.
  4. Loose weight if you are overweight.
  5. Avoid smoking and drinking if you have a habit, and reduce salt intake.

With the above suggestions, you should be able to get rid of hypertension in nearly six or more months.

I hope this has helped you.

Thank you.
