Hello doctor,

Yesterday my blood pressure reading was 180/120 mm Hg without any known cause. After checking again two hours later, my blood pressure reading was 170/120 mm Hg. After another four hours, the reading was 160/110 mm Hg. Today my blood pressure reading was 160/110 mm Hg. After checking again four hours later, my blood pressure reading was 170/120 mm Hg. After another four hours, the reading was still 170/120 mm Hg. Upon checking again a few minutes ago, my blood pressure reading is still 170/120 mm Hg. Do you have any suggestions? I am not under any medication.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

If blood pressure is raised for the first time, I would advise taking short-acting antihypertensive for few days. Monitor blood pressure, and if stable, then long-acting medicine will be started. Take Tablet Captopril 25 mg three times a day. Before starting, have serum urea, creatinine, and electrolytes done. Repeat these tests after five days of starting the medicine. If you are allergic to Captopril, let me know so that some other medicine may be started instead of this. The side effects may be swelling of lips or tongue, itching, raised blood potassium levels. Follow up after five days with the test reports and blood pressure recorded.
