Hello doctor,
My 60 year old mom is a diabetic. Her blood sugars are 100 in fasting and 140 in random. She is also hypertensive. Her BP is usually under control, but from the last few days, it shot up to 180/80. She is taking Tenormin 20 mg. Kindly tell me what I should do. She is feeling well otherwise, and all her blood reports are also normal.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Now, the priority is to control the blood pressure (BP). So, her BP medicine needs to be hiked. She needs to be on a medicine like Metoprolol. So, you can get this medicine prescribed. The BP needs to be controlled even if she is not having any symptoms. Also try to follow these instructions:
1) She should have ahealthy lifestyle by avoiding fatty, oily and high-calorie diet.
2) Havelow salt diet, monitor blood pressure regularly, thrice a day for one week, then once or twice a week. The BP should not be persistently more than 140/90 mmHg.
3) Do regular exercises like brisk walking or jogging for at least 30 minutes a day for five days a week.
4) Take lots of green leafy vegetables, fruits, and fish once or twice a week.
5) There should not be any abdominal fat deposition or obesity.
