My blood pressure medicine was changed from Atenolol to Valsartan. I have the following questions; please advise.
1) My pulse rate went up. Will that get normal in due time?
2) As I know that Atenolol prevents migraine. However, since the change to Valsartan, I have had migraine again, only once in two weeks. What should I do?

Both medicines are used to control blood pressure depending upon the medical condition of the patient. Atenolol is a beta-blocker, and Valsartan is an angiotensin receptor blocker. Ultimately both reduce blood pressure through a different mechanism. But I would prefer Valsartan for control of blood pressure. Now you have mentioned that your pulsate went up on taking Valsartan.
1) What is the blood pressure recording on taking the Valsartan tablet?
2) What is the dose of Valsartan you are taking?
3) What is your blood pressure without taking medicine?
4) What is the frequency of migraine episodes you are getting in a month? If you have frequent migraine, you can ask your treating physician to add a Propranolol tablet in a low dose for chronic migraine prophylaxis.
Please reply to the above questions to help me guide you more precisely.

My blood pressure is 130/85 mm Hg on average with Valsartan and Hydrochlorothiazid (160 mg/12.5 mg) once a day.
These I have been taking for two weeks now.
The blood pressure without medicine is 150/100 mm Hg. I had migraine twice after changing from Atenolol 50 mg once a day to the above medicine. My blood pressure with Atenolol was similar, just my pulse rate increased to 90 beats per minute, and I have a pulsation feeling in the chest. I think the pulsation feeling is getting better. Does it mean that my body is adjusting? Migraine is triggered with sunlight and sometimes after drinking a maximum of a liter of beer in the evening.

You are taking a combination of Valsartan and Hydrochlorothiazide, which has two different mechanisms for controlling blood pressure. Valsartan is an angiotensin receptor blocker, and Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic, and both acts through a different mechanism to ultimately control blood pressure. So at this high blood pressure, this is good medicine to control the blood pressure, and do not worry, your body will adjust to it. A pulse rate of 90 beats per minute is normal, and there is nothing to worry about at this value.
For migraine, avoid the triggers if you know, as you mentioned above, and inspite of that, if there are migraine symptoms frequently, please ask your doctor to add a low dose of Propranolol medicine for the chronic prophylaxis of migraine. I have listed a few instructions for you below.
1) Take the medicine regularly on time without any gap, even for one day, as you have high blood pressure and strict adherence to the medicine is required.
2) Decrease the salt intake in the diet.
3) Do an early morning aerobic exercise of 45 minutes a day for five days in a week.
4) Avoid stress, maintain healthy eating, and avoid drinking to better control blood pressure.
